Project Description
This apartment renovation on Biltmore Street in Washington, DC’s, historic Kalorama Triangle neighborhood was featured in a book by Sarah Susanke and Marc Vassallo, entitled, “Inside the Not So Big House”.
And here’s the main reason why: This tiny apartment only has 650 square feet, but we transformed it into a gracious home that maximized its natural character, created joyful living areas that were flexible and efficient, and seamlessly fused traditional detailing and modern materials.
Given the small stature of the space, we knew storage was a priority. So we cleverly maximized spaces throughout the apartment by capitalizing on natural shelving and drawers in unique places like hallways.
The historic building itself presented expected construction challenges, but we considered these as bonuses — opportunities we could capitalize upon to more fully introduce the character of the space — rather than obstacles.
