Project Description
This peaceful remodel involved the entire third floor of an older property on 13th Street in Washington, DC. To create a calming retreat from the bustling street below, we worked with the client to design a traditional bedroom layout with modern details and natural materials.
We defined the light-filled warm bedroom using functional elements like the full-height, book-matched custom mahogany closet units. A pair of glass pivot pocketing doors connects the bedroom area to a quiet sitting room.
The master bathroom is a work of art with its clean lines, warm wood tones, and sophisticated fixtures complemented by existing, historic details — like the radiator heating element — which we restored to their formal glory.
Based on the success of the third-floor remodel, the client asked us to renovate an existing exterior rear porch to — like in the zen interior upstairs — feature modern wood rails and a sunscreen. We accomplished this using the same Earthy materials and an eye toward integrated simplicity, demonstrated by elements including the rear wood terrace’s integral storage bench units.
